No. 24 Ranked Tigers Open MIAA Play at Lincoln Wednesday

Game Notes I Listen Live I Live Stats

The No. 24 ranked Fort Hays State men's basketball team heads on the road for their first MIAA game of the season. The Tigers play the Blue Tigers of Lincoln University on Wednesday (Nov. 30) in Jefferson City, Mo. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm, which follows the women's game at 5:30 pm.

Fort Hays State went a perfect 6-0 in non-conference play to start the year. It was the second straight year that the Tigers finished unbeaten in the non-conference portion of their regular season schedule. In fact, other than an 83-76 setback at Kansas State University in 2009-10, the Tigers have won all non-conference regular season games against NCAA Division II and NAIA opponents over the last four years, which dates back to the 2008-09 season. The Tigers are 25-1 in that span.

Now comes the grinding schedule of MIAA play. All games from here on out are conference games. Fort Hays State finished second in the MIAA last year in the regular season with a conference record of 16-6. The Tigers are looking to extend a five-game win streak over Lincoln. FHSU won both meetings in the regular season last year.

Lincoln enters with a record of 0-4, but that can be deceiving since they have played several quality opponents to respectable margins.

Tyrone Phillips leads FHSU in scoring through the first six games at 15.0 points per game. Karron McKenzie is close behind at 14.7 points per game. McKenzie has scored in double figures in all six games this year and is shooting a team-best 66 percent from the field. Kendrick Morse is the only other Tiger averaging double figures at 11.7 points per game. Matt Simmons leads the way for FHSU in rebounds, averaging 11.7 per game.

After Wednesday, Fort Hays State returns home for its next three games, starting with Washburn on December 7.
