FHSU-Washburn Rivalry Renews Saturday in Hays

The No. 13 ranked Tigers host in-state rival Washburn on Saturday (Feb. 5) at 3 pm. The women's and men's doubleheader will be broadcast on statewide television. Help us "Blackout the Bods", so wear your black to the game. Shuttle Service
Due to the amount of fans expected to attend the game, a free shuttle service will be provided to help traffic congestion. The shuttle service will be running from the grass parking area north of Lewis Field Stadium to Gross Memorial Coliseum. The shuttle service will begin at 1 pm (the start of the women's game) and run throughout the remainder of the games.

Fort Hays State enters the game at 18-3 overall and 12-3 in the MIAA. Washburn is the hottest team in the MIAA right now, winners of six straight. The Ichabods enter at 13-5 overall and 10-4 in the MIAA.

The Tigers are coming off a win over Missouri Western in Hays on Thursday evening by a score of 79-63. Fort Hays State remains one game back of Missouri Southern in the MIAA standings heading into Saturday, but Washburn is breathing down their neck in third, just one game back in the loss column.

This will be a battle of regionally ranked teams, as the Tigers are currently fourth in the region and Washburn is seventh in the region.

The Tigers are led in scoring by Dominique Jones at 17.0 points per game. He has scored at least 20 points in a game six times this year and at least 30 once. He also leads the team and MIAA in assists, averaging 6.2 per game. He dished out a career-high 13 assists in the win over Missouri Western Thursday, the sixth-most for a single game in FHSU history.

Dijon Smith continues his solid play in the post, ranking second on the team in scoring at 14.5 points per game. He has reached double figures in scoring the last four games and scored at least 20 points in five games this year. Smith leads the team and ranks second in the MIAA in field goal percentage (.663). He leads the MIAA in blocked shots per game (1.7).

Ken Bowman was just one rebound shy of a double-double on Thursday against Missouri Western with a team-high 19 points. He ranks third on the team in scoring at 11.9 points per game, giving the Tigers a 1-2 punch in the post. He is second on the team in field goal percentage (.653). He is second in the MIAA in blocked shots per game (1.3) behind Smith.

Corbin Kuntzsch also averages double figures in scoring for FHSU at 10.4 points per game. He continues to rank 14th on the all-time scoring list at FHSU with 1,078 points in his career. He is third on the team in rebounds, averaging 5.7 per game. He leads the team in double-doubles in points and rebounds this year with three. He leads the team in 3-point field goal percentage (.431).

Moses Dayee leads the Tigers in 3-point field goals with 44. He is shooting at a 40.7 percent clip beyond the 3-point line. He is the top scorer off the bench at 8.5 points per game. All but one of the eight guards on the team are shooting at least 37 percent beyond the 3-point line.

Ben Congiusta is the hottest shooter beyond the 3-point line for the Tigers, hitting at a 51.4 percent clip over the last eight games. He is averaging 6.4 points per game.

Karron McKenzie is the second-highest scorer off the bench at 7.4 points per game. He is one of the top free-throw shooters on the team, hitting at an 83.9 percent clip (47-of-56).

Matt Simmons produced his first double-double of the season on Thursday against Missouri Western with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The 14 points was a season high. It was his fifth double-digit rebounding game this year. He leads the team in rebounds at 6.5 per game.

Logan Stutz leads Washburn in scoring at 21.1 points per game. He is the conference leader in field goal percentage (.717). He has earned MIAA Player of the Week honors twice this year. De'Andre Washington is second on the team in scoring at 15.7 points per game and he's second in the MIAA in assists per game (5.9).
