Box Score

The No. 13 ranked Tigers were firing on all cylinders Saturday afternoon at Gross Coliseum in a statewide television game against in-state rival Washburn. The Tigers shot 56.4 percent from the field and a season-high 59.1 percent beyond the 3-point line to win 94-73. The Tigers moved to 19-3 overall and 13-3 in the MIAA.

Washburn, which entered on a six-game winning streak and just one game back of the Tigers in the MIAA standings, played pretty well, shooting 50 percent from the field overall. The Tigers just shot the ball extremely well, especially beyond the arc as they drained 13 3-point field goals to tie their season high. They also shot really well at the free-throw line (86.4 percent), hitting 19-of-22 attempts.

Another tremendous stat was the Tigers produced 27 assists on their 31 field goals in the game. However, that is the third-most this year, as they've produced 29 and 28 assists in games this year.

Dominique Jones had a huge game for the Tigers, scoring 28 points and dishing out 11 assists for his second double-double in points and assists this year. Jones was 8-of-11 from the field, including a 6-of-8 effort beyond the 3-point line. He hit 6-of-7 free-throw attempts. He also added a team-high four steals.

Corbin Kuntzsch and Matt Simmons were each just two rebounds shy of double-doubles. Kuntzsch finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Simmons had 11 points and eight rebounds. Dijon Smith also finished in double figures with 12 points. They had complete performances

Logan Stutz led Washburn with 18 points, followed by De'Andre Washington with 16.

The win for Fort Hays State gave head coach Mark Johnson his 200th win as head coach at Fort Hays State. He is just the third coach to reach 200 at Fort Hays State, joining Cade Suran and Bill Morse.

Missouri Southern plays at Missouri Western on Saturday night, so if MSSU wins, they remain one game ahead of FHSU in the conference standings. A loss would bring them back into a tie.

The Tigers have a two-game road trip in front of them next week, playing at Truman and Central Missouri with a pair of games within three days. They then return home for their final two home games of the season against Southwest Baptist and Missouri Southern.
