Fort Hays State, ranked No. 19 in the latest NCAA Division II rankings, looks to snap their current three-game losing streak at Pittsburg State on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 14). Tipoff is set for 3:30 pm. The Tigers enter the game at 10-4 overall and 4-4 in the MIAA, while Pittsburg State is 10-5 overall and 6-3 in the MIAA.
After starting the season at 10-1 overall, the Tigers are on a three-game skid in MIAA play and now find themselves in a tie for sixth place in the conference standings. However, there is still plenty of conference play to go and the Tigers are just two games back in the loss column to first-place Northwest Missouri State, which is 6-2 in conference play and ranked No. 24 in the nation.
Pittsburg State is one of the hottest teams in the conference right now, winners of four straight. That ties the highest current streak of any MIAA team with Southwest Baptist. The Gorillas are tied for second place in the conference standings with No. 23 ranked Missouri Southern entering Saturday.
Fort Hays State is on a six-game win streak against Pittsburg State. The Tigers have swept the season home-away series in each of the past three seasons. FHSU won by a score of 70-63 last year in Pittsburg, pulling out a tight battle with a 5-0 run in the final minute to secure the win.
Moses Dayee scored all five of those points with a 3-point field goal and a pair of free-throws.
Fort Hays State has three players averaging double figures in scoring.
Karron McKenzie leads the way at 12.9 per game, followed by
Tyrone Phillips (11.0) and
Kendrick Morse (10.4).
Matt Simmons leads the MIAA in rebounding, averaging 9.5 per game. This game features the top two rebounders in the conference, Andra Bailey of Pittsburg State averages 8.9 per game.
