No. 25 Tigers Travel to Emporia State Wednesday

Game Notes I Watch Live I Listen Live I Live Stats

The 25th-ranked FHSU men's basketball team travels to Emporia State on Wednesday night to wrap up the first half of its conference slate. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm at White Auditorium in Emporia, Kan. The Tigers enter the game at 11-4 overall and 5-4 in the MIAA, while Emporia State is 8-7 overall and 4-5 in the MIAA.

Wednesday's game will mark the halfway point for the Tigers in conference play. Fort Hays State is looking to tie Pittsburg State for at least fourth at the midway point with a win, although the Tigers could move to as high as a second-place tie depending on other outcomes in the conference on Wednesday night. If Northwest Missouri State loses at Missouri Southern on Wednesday night, a FHSU win would put the Tigers back within a game of first place in the conference standings. Northwest Missouri is first in the MIAA standings at 7-2, but three teams are lurking right behind with three losses.

Emporia has been a rough trip for the Tigers in recent history as the Hornets are 4-1 against FHSU in their home building since FHSU joined the MIAA in 2006-07. Fort Hays State was ranked No. 17 in the nation last year when they lost by four at Emporia State in the regular season finale.

The Tigers claimed two of three games off the Hornets last year, winning the rubber match in the MIAA Tournament semifinals by a score of 74-71. All three games last year were decided by four points or less. Fort Hays State puts a 4-1 road record to the test on Wednesday. The Tigers are 3-1 on the road in the MIAA so far, with their only loss at Central Missouri.

Karron McKenzie continues to lead the Tigers in scoring at 12.9 points per game, followed by Tyrone Phillips at 11.3, Moses Dayee at 10.7, and Kendrick Morse at 10.5. Dayee tied his career high of 19 points in the win at Pittsburg State on Saturday. All three four scored in double figures at Pittsburg State.

Matt Simmons recorded at least 10 rebounds in a game for the eighth time this year at Pittsburg State. He continues to lead the MIAA in rebounding at 9.5 per game.
