Fort Hays State jumped out to a 27-point halftime advantage and cruised to a 94-39 win over Central Christian (Kan.) College on Wednesday evening in Hays. The win moved FHSU to 3-2 overall before entering conference play next week.
Fort Hays State had another efficient night shooting the ball, finishing 50 percent overall from the field (35-of-70). The Tigers were nearly as good from 3-point range, hitting at a 47.4 percent clip (9-of-19).
Carson Konrade was responsible for more than half of the Tiger 3-point field goals with five in the game. He finished with a team-high 21 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field and was a perfect 5-of-5 beyond the 3-point line. He was 2-of-3 at the free-throw line. The 21 points is also his season high.
Dwayne Brunson finished with 15 points and
Lance Russell added 12. All Tigers to play in the game scored.
Craig Nicholson nearly had a double-double, matching his season high in assists with nine and he added eight points.
Fort Hays State had its largest lead of 58 points at the 2:12 mark of the second half. The Tigers dominated in low with 42 points in the paint. They had 27 points off turnovers and 14 fast-break points.
Chris Jones led Central Christian with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Kris Quant also reached double figures with 12 points. Central Christian finished just 25 percent from the field (14-of-56) and 21.1 percent beyond the 3-point line (4-of-19).
The Tigers head into MIAA play next week when they host Central Missouri Wednesday (Dec. 5) in Hays. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
