Tigers Enter Key Road Swing Thursday Night at SBU

Game Notes I Watch Live I Listen Live I Live Stats

The FHSU men's basketball team hits the road for its final two road games of the season this week, starting at Southwest Baptist on Thursday evening in Bolivar, Mo. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm at the Meyer Sports Center. FHSU is 16-6 overall and 10-6 in the MIAA, while Southwest Baptist is 16-10 overall and 9-8 in the MIAA.

This will be a key road swing for the Tigers to possibly gain ground in the South Central Region rankings. The Tigers are 10th in the initial set of rankings, which were released on Wednesday.

FHSU looks to avenge a loss to SBU earlier this year in Hays. The Bearcats took the first match-up of the season by a score of 68-63. That snapped a four-game win streak by the Tigers over the Bearcats. It was the first win for SBU over FHSU since the 2008-09 season.

A win by the Tigers on Thursday night could put them just a game back of third-place Washburn and Central Missouri in conference play. The Ichabods and Mules each sit at 12-5 in conference play. Missouri Southern leaped into second on Wednesday night with a win over Washburn, now at 13-5.

Moses Dayee took over the team lead in scoring after the one-point win over Central Missouri this past Saturday. He is averaging 11.1 points per game. Karron McKenzie is right behind at 11.0 points per game. Kendrick Morse is the only other Tiger averaging double figures at 10.4 points per game.

Matt Simmons continues to lead the MIAA in rebounding and blocked shots. He is averaging 9.5 rebounds per game and 1.9 blocked shots per game. He recorded double-doubles in points and rebounds in each of the home wins last week. He is averaging 8.0 points per game this season.

Omar McDade and Lance Russell have elevated their offensive play of late for FHSU. McDade had a huge all-around game in the win over Central Missouri this past Saturday, with 10 points, 7 assists, 5 steals, 3 rebounds, and 1 blocked shot. He is averaging over 11 points per game in the last seven contests. Russell is also averaging double figures in his last six games.
