Tigers Enter Final Homestand Wednesday Hosting Pitt State

Game Notes I Watch Live I Listen Live I Live Stats

***There will be a tape delay broadcast of the FHSU vs. Pittsburg State basketball games on Smoky Hills Public Television on Thursday evening (Feb. 23) at approximately 8:30 pm. The broadcast follows live coverage of the Kansas Class 3-2-1A State Wrestling Tournament that evening.

The Fort Hays State men's basketball team closes out the 2011-12 regular season this week hosting two games at Gross Memorial Coliseum. FHSU matches up against Pittsburg State on Wednesday night with conference tournament seeds at stake. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm. The Tigers enter at 16-8 overall and 10-8 in the MIAA, while the Gorillas are 14-12 overall and 10-9 in the MIAA.

Fort Hays State enters this game alone in sixth place in the conference after Southwest Baptist knocked off first-place Northwest Missouri State on Tuesday night. SBU moved to 11-8 in the MIAA, a half game ahead of FHSU. FHSU could move back into a tie with SBU with a win over Pittsburg State. Pittsburg State is a half game behind FHSU at 10-9, so an FHSU loss would drop the Tigers to seventh in the MIAA. A Fort Hays State win on Wednesday night would lock Pittsburg State into the No. 7 seed at the MIAA Tournament.

FHSU defeated Pittsburg State earlier this year in Pittsburg by a score of 76-66. That extended Fort Hays State's win streak over Pittsburg State to seven games. FHSU has won the last four meetings between the teams in Hays.

The Tigers enter the game on a two-game skid after losses at Southwest Baptist and Missouri Southern this past week. Pittsburg State is coming off a loss at Washburn this past Saturday.

Moses Dayee and Karron McKenzie lead the Tigers in scoring, each at 11.7 points per game. Kendrick Morse also averages double figures at 10.4 per game. Matt Simmons leads the MIAA in rebounds per game (9.8) and blocked shots per game (2.0).
