Tiger Baseball Drops Finale of 4-Game Series with NWMSU

The Tigers couldn't hold on to an 8-4 advantage, dropping a 12-11 game to Northwest Missouri State on Sunday (March 4) at Larks Park in the final game of a four-game series. The Bearcats took three of the four games during the weekend series.
 
After a NWMSU home run in the first for a 2-0 score, the Tigers scored the next five runs all by home runs to take a 4-2 advantage. Shane Wade hit a solo shot to left field, and Ryan Busboom followed with a grand slam home run an inning later.
 
The Bearcats cut the lead to 5-4 in the top of the four; however, FHSU totaled three runs in the bottom of the inning for an 8-4 score. Nash Smith hit an RBI single to score Brandon Hoefler from second base. Kelton Rule doubled down the leftfield line to bring in two more Tiger runs in the inning.
 
Down 8-4 in the top of the fifth, the Bearcats scored six runs to take a 10-8 lead. The Tigers tied it up at 10 with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Nash Smith totaled his second RBI on a double then scored from third on a wild pitch.
 
NWMSU scored two more runs in the sixth to regain the lead at 12-10. The Tigers cut the lead in half with a solo home run from Brett Macari for the final 12-11 score.
 
Fort Hays State's record is now 2-5 (1-3 MIAA), and the Tigers host Tabor College on Tuesday (March 6) at 4 p.m.
