Fort Hays State opened the year 7-0 overall and moved up to No. 15 in the national rankings before falling out of the poll earlier this week due to the losses on the road. FHSU was also 7-2 through its first nine games last year, so the Tigers look to match their 8-2 start from last year.
Dwayne Brunson leads the Tigers in scoring at rebounding at 18.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. His six double-doubles in points and rebounds this season ranks fourth in NCAA Division II. He also has 22 blocked shots, which ranks ninth in NCAA Division II.
Craig Nicholson ranks second on the team in scoring at 16.3 points per game and he ranks second nationally in assists per game at 8.8. Nicholson was the national leader in assists per game entering the road stretch last week, but is just 0.2 behind the national leader Dino Mallios of St. Anselm at 9.0. Nicholson has three double-doubles this year in points and assists and his 15 assists against Newman in Hays is a national high for a game in Division II this year.
Carson Konrade continues to blaze the nets from deep, shooting 54.7 percent from beyond the 3-point line. He is 29-of-53 on 3-point attempts this year and averages 14.8 points per game. The whole team continues to shoot the ball at a high rate beyond the 3-point line at 45.1 percent as a team, which ranks fifth in the nation. The Tigers are also very solid at the free-throw line at 81.2 percent as a team to rank fourth nationally.
