Tigers Head North to Battle Lopers Tuesday Night

Fort Hays State (16-10, 9-8 MIAA) at
Nebraska-Kearney (13-13, 9-8 MIAA)

Tuesday, February 20 - 7:30 pm
Kearney, Neb. - Health & Sports Center

Fort Hays State continues its key stretch for MIAA Tournament positioning on Tuesday (Feb. 20) at Nebraska-Kearney. Game time is set for 7:30 pm at the Health and Sports Center. This is the final regular season road game for the Tigers, who enter at 16-10 overall, 9-8 in the MIAA. UNK is 13-13 overall, also 9-8 in the MIAA.

Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney enter Tuesday in a three-way tie for sixth place in the MIAA. Lincoln is also part of that mix, all at 9-8 in MIAA play. After the Tigers and Lopers meet on Tuesday night, both teams will play Southwest Baptist to close out the regular season. Lincoln hosts both Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri State at home this week.

Lurking behind the three teams in ninth is Pittsburg State at 8-9 in conference play. However, the cluster of three teams is only one game back of fifth place occupant Central Oklahoma (10-7) and two games back of Central Missouri (11-6) in fourth place. Determination of MIAA Tournament seeds comes down to this week with just two regular season games remaining on the schedule. The Tigers are trying to at least secure a first-round game on their home floor.

1,000-Point Watch: Hadley Gillum came up just one point shy of 1,000 for his career in the 57-55 win over Central Oklahoma this past Saturday. He is at 999 entering the game on Tuesday night, so his first basket will make him the 20th player in the history of the program to reach the 1,000-point plateau.

The Tigers will be trying to sweep the regular season series from the Lopers after winning 78-69 earlier this year in Hays. Gillum led the Tigers in that game with 23 points, followed by Jared Vitztum with 15, Brady Werth with 14, and Marcus Cooper with 11. Trey Lansman paced the Lopers with 27 points, followed by Lane Rohrich with 21. FHSU is looking to snap a four-game losing streak to the Lopers inside the Health and Sports Center in Kearney. The last win against the Lopers in Kearney occurred during the 2012-13 season.
