PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Fort Hays State track and field teams tallied four provisional marks on the first day of the 2022-23 season Friday (Dec. 9) at the Boo Rodgers Combined Events in Pittsburg, Kan.

Mattie Rossi,
Taylor Savolt and
Chloe Stanley all surpassed the provisional threshold in the pentathlon. Rossi opened the year with a provisional time of 8.73 in the 60m hurdles, compiling the best single-event score of the day amongst the entire field with 967 points. The senior finished third with 3,689 points through five events, currently seventh-best in Division II. Her time of 2:20.02 in the 800m dash ranks her 10th on the FHSU DII era performance chart.

Savolt scored a personal-best 3,512 to place sixth. She recorded the top long jump of the day for the Tigers, accumulating 668 points after a clearance of 17-8.25. The junior posted a time of 8.99 in the 60m hurdles, good for 912 points.

Stanley was 13th in the field with 3,267 points, good for seventh on the FHSU DII era performance chart. The Bennington, Kan. native picked up 887 points in the 60m hurdles and another 752 in the 800m run.

Elysia Kunkler finished 22nd with 2,960 points,
Hadley Williams placed 25th with 2,738 points and
Ellie Dusselier was 28th with 2,629 points.

On the men's side,
Nolan Churchman sits in second place and leads all Division II competition with 3,121 points through four events in the heptathlon. The sophomore sits 18 points off the day-one pace from his school-record total of 5,433 points set at the MIAA Championships last season.

He compiled more than 800 points in three of the four events on the day, including the 60m dash, long jump and high jump. He was less than one inch off the provisional mark in the high jump, clearing 6-7.25, and was just 1.25 inches shy of hitting the provisional threshold in the long jump with a top clearance of 23-2.25.

Jonah Remsberg sits in 17th with 2,537 points, with
Luke Hampl close behind in 18th with 2,534 points through four events.
Ethan Salmans currently ranks 22nd with 2,442 points.

The Tiger heptathletes will wrap up their competition Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. before the rest of the team joins in with the Crimson & Gold Invitational beginning at 11 a.m.
