INDIANAPOLIS -
Tereus Henry of the Fort Hays State men's wrestling team turned in a 4-0 record on day one of the 44th Midwest Classic on Saturday (Dec. 16), helping the junior reach the semifinals at the prestigious event for a second-consecutive season. The Tigers sit in 24th out of the 51 schools in attendance after accumulating 32.5 team points thanks to a team record of 15-18.
Â
Henry, the 11th-ranked wrestler at 197 pounds in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll, locked up a top-six finish after rattling off four-consecutive wins. He dominated in his first two outings, picking up a pair of second-period technical falls to reach the round of 16, where he fought his way to an 11-4 decision. The El Paso, Texas native then clinched a spot in the semis thanks to a 2-0 decision in the quarterfinal when he was able to pick up a quick escape in the second period before riding out his opponent in the third period to secure the victory.
Â
Henry will take on unranked Ben Tonnessen from Adams State in the semifinals, while No. 2 Derek Blubaugh (UIndy) and No. 8 Dakoda Rodgers (Pitt-Johnstown) battle in the other semifinal at 197 pounds.
Â
Henry was the lone Tiger to win his first bout of the day, but five FHSU athletes bounced back to pick up a pair of wins in the consolation bracket to finish 2-2 on the day.
Drew Bell secured a pair of first-period pins at 141 pounds after falling to a 5-2 decision in the first round, while
