26-Year-Old Record Goes Down at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas - The Fort Hays State track and field teams broke one school record and turned in five NCAA Division II national qualifying times on Friday (March 31) at the 95th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by Truist. The Tiger women ran three national qualifying marks, while the men hit two provisionals and broke a 26-year-old record.

The quartet of Hayden Albright, Philip Landrum, Nolan Churchman and Ethan Lang wrapped up the festivities with a school-record time of 3:23.65 in the sprint medley relay, breaking a record previously set in 1997. The Tigers finished 14th in the race while going up against some of the top Division I competition in the country, including Clemson, Texas, Georgia, Alabama and others.

Earlier in the day the group turned in a time of 3:11.92 in the 400m relay prelims, good for the fourth-fastest time in Division II so far this season. The Tigers finished 27th in the process, faster than squads from K-State, Iowa State, Wichita State, Auburn and several other DI programs.

Albright also ran a wind-aided national qualifying time in the 100m dash, placing 28th in the timed finals section with a personal-best 10.45.

The women's group of Lyric Holman, Chloe Stanley, Taylor Savolt and Mattie Rossi finished fifth in the timed finals section of the 4x400m relay with a national-qualifying time of 3:48.59. The Tigers beat out several Division I programs in the process, including Wichita State, Delaware and Jackson State.

Holman and Rossi also turned in individual national qualifying times to start the day. Holman ran the 100m dash in a wind-aided 11.77, good for 38th in the prelims. Rossi was 19th in the 100m hurdles timed finals section with a wind-aided time of 14.04.

The Tigers will wrap up the weekend at the Central Nebraska Challenge on Saturday (April 1) in Kearney, Neb. before traveling to Wichita, Kan. next weekend for the K.T. Woodman Classic April 5-8.
