Stanley Breaks Record Again in California

LONG BEACH, Calif & AZUSA, Calif - The Fort Hays State track and field team opened its week in California at a pair of meets on Thursday (April 13). The multi-athletes opened their competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific, while the rest of the squad competed at the one-day Pacific Coast Intercollegiate hosted by Long Beach State.

Ryan Stanley broke the outdoor school record in the pole vault for the second time in less than a week, this time surpassing the bar at 17-7 to climb into a tie for first on the NCAA Division II performance chart so far this season.

The senior opened the day with a first attempt clearance at 16-5-2.5 before needing all three attempts to clear the bar at both 16-11 and 17-3. After setting the school record at 17-3.5 just six days ago, the Bennington, Kan. native added on to that record by sailing over the 17-7 bar on his second trip down the runway. He placed third in the 47-man field comprised mostly of DI athletes.

The Tigers had two other national qualifying marks in the sprints, with one coming from both the men's and women's teams. Hayden Albright was third in the 200m dash with a lifetime best 21.25, good for eighth at FHSU during the DII era. Lyric Holman was .02 off her season-best in the 100m dash, placing 11th out of 90 runners with a time of 11.78.

Holman was also 12th in the 200m dash with a time of 24.50 while anchoring the 4x100m relay team alongside Jasey Downing, Kinley Brown and Tori Poe that placed 15th with a time of 48.42.

35 miles inland, the FHSU multi-athletes battled cold, windy conditions on the opening day of the Bryan Clay Invitational. Competing in the top flight of heptathletes, Mattie Rossi sits in 12th through four events with 2,957 points. Taylor Savolt sits in ninth in group B with 2,715 points, while Chloe Stanley is 21st in group C with 2,640 points through four events. On the men's side, Jonah Remsberg is 13th in group B of the decathlon with 2,537 points while Nolan Churchman was unable to finish the competition.

The multi-athletes will wrap up competition in the heptathlon and decathlon on Friday, with several other Tigers joining in with distance races. The meet is slated to conclude on Saturday with the remainder of the field events, sprints and relays.
