Box Score STERLING, Kan. – Fort Hays State tennis ended their season with a sweep victory over Sterling College on Wednesday (April 19) by a score of 7-0. The Tigers dominated the court all afternoon long, winning each of the six singles matches in straight sets. The win helped the Tigers finish the season with an 8-15 overall record, while Sterling College moved to 5-10.

Fort Hays State walked away with victories in all three of the doubles matches against the Warriors. The No. 1 doubles team made up of
Irina Alfonso and
Stefany Stemmer had the closest contest, winning by a score of 7-5.
Maria Paz Diaz and
Heidi Lubbers teamed up for a 6-3 win at the No. 2 position, while
Hope Lubbers and
Grace Unruh (No. 3) took their match 6-2.

Alfonso took care of business at the No. 1 singles position, holding her opponent to just one game victory with scores of 6-0, 6-1. Mendez dominated her match at the No. 3 position, blanking her opponent 6-0 in both sets. Unruh (No. 4) and
Kylie Aufdengarten (No. 5) defeated their opponents by the same scores of 6-1, 6-1 to add two more team points to the Tigers total.

Gracen Friess won her match for the team at the No. 6 singles position with scores of 6-1, and 6-2. Paz Diaz (No. 2) had the smallest margin of victory in her straight set win, 6-4, 6-2.

Fort Hays State finished the season with eight victories at 8-15, being the most wins in a season since the 2016-2017 season (10).
Grace Unruh led the team in singles wins on the season with 18, followed by
Maria Paz Diaz with 17, while Alfonso, Stemmer, and Mendez all finished with 15.
