KEARNEY, Neb. - The Fort Hays State track and field teams recorded six NCAA Division II national qualifying marks and collected six event victories at the Central Nebraska Challenge Saturday (April 1) at Kearney High School. The Tiger women racked up four first-place finishes and a pair of national qualifying performances, while the men picked up two wins and four national qualifiers.
Â
Rhyann Brown recorded a huge PR in the javelin throw, finishing first with a top toss of 159-10 on her first attempt of the day. The mark is a personal-best by more than five feet for the two-time national qualifier and moves her to fifth on the FHSU DII era performance chart and second on the DII national list to date.
Addie Berens was second in the competition, recording a national-qualifying toss of 145-0.
Â
Ryan Stanley also took home a victory with a national qualifying mark, clearing the 16-11 bar in the pole vault on his first attempt of the day to move to fifth on the national performance chart so far this season. He did not record a failed jump at any of his three successful heights.
Â
The Tiger men had two other national qualifying marks in field events, including a personal-best toss of 187-1 from
Kolgan Ohl in the hammer throw that was good for fourth on the day and helped him climb to eighth on the FHSU DII era performance list.
William Tice surpassed the provisional distance in the javelin throw for the second week in a row, placing second with a top heave of 193-2.
Â
Trever Medina was the lone individual to record a national-qualifying time on the track, placing fourth in the 800m run with a personal-best time of 1:51.20. He currently ranks 12th on this season's DII performance chart.
Â
The Tiger women took home two first-place finishes in the middle-distance races, including
Emily Salmans (2:14.94) in the 800m run and
Regan Hodsden (4:42.59) in the 1,500m run. Hodsden now ranks sixth on the DII era performance chart at FHSU in the 1,500m race.
Â
The two other FHSU victories came in field events, with
Liberty Booker taking home first place in the open section of the shot put with a top heave of 42-8.25 and
Xavier Robinson winning the triple jump with a top clearance of 47-0.75.
Â
The Tigers will be back in action next weekend (April 7-8) at the KT Woodman Classic in Wichita, Kan.
