TOPEKA, Kan. - Fort Hays State University's track and field teams showcased their skill at the MIAA Indoor Championships over the weekend (Feb. 23-25), culminating in strong finishes for both the men's and women's squads. The women finished third, their best finish in program history as members of the MIAA, while the men tied their best finish at the MIAA Championships finishing fourth.
Earning individual conference titles were
Ethan Lang and
Jaycee Vath. Lang topped the men's 600-yard run finals in a time of 1:10.45, winning the conference title in the event for a third time. Vath took home the gold medal in the 5,000-meter run, inching out teammate
Regan Hodsden at the finish line. Vath crossed the line in 17:06.10, while Hodsden was right on her heels in 17:06.39. The women's 5,000 was the only event the Tigers produced multiple All-MIAA performers.
As a whole, the Tigers had seven All-MIAA performances, including four on the men's side and three on the women's side. The teams attained an impressive 15 national qualifying marks, eight on the men's side and seven on the women's.
Trever Medina finished second in the 800m run with a time of 1:51.51, earning his third All-MIAA honor as a Tiger. In the men's 3,000m race,
Grant Bradley also secured All-MIAA status with a third-place finish. He crossed the line in 8:18.91. It was Bradley's fourth All-MIAA performance, including his third for indoor season.
In relay competition, the men's 4x400m team of
Hayden Albright,
Trever Medina,
Ethan Lang, and
Nolan Churchman turned in an All-MIAA performance by finishing second in a time of 3:13.51. Their time was second-best in school history. The women's distance medley team of
Faith Little,
Kinley Brown,
Hattie Lukert, and
Madison Sutterfield turned in an All-MIAA peformance, posting a time of 12:09.63 in third place.
The Tiger women placed third with 62 points, while the men finished in fourth with 64 points. The women's team finish was the best in program history at the MIAA Championships, while the men tied their best MIAA Championship performance in fourth place.
The Tigers now await the announcement of selections for the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, set to be released Tuesday evening (Feb. 27). Those selected will travel to Pittsburg, Kan. March 8-9.
