Men's Track and Field

Friday's Competition Concludes with Dual Champions and Provisional Marks

Fort Hays State University's track and field athletes showcased their prowess at both the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Midwest Classic Friday (April 12). The team was able to pick up multiple provisional marks, including four on the men's side and three for the women.

At the esteemed Bryan Clay Invitational, the men's 800m showcased a formidable display of talent as Trever Medina, Ethan Lang, and Aaron Mangan sprinted towards excellence. Medina and Lang's performances were just inside the national standard, marking their first outdoor season provisional marks. Medina's time of 1:50.23 fell just 0.2 seconds short of his personal best.

In the women's 5,000 open Race B, Jaycee Vath secured a top-ten finish among Division I competition. Vath's mark came 13 seconds faster than her previous personal best, passing the finish in 16:52.41.

The women's heptathlon witnessed Taylor Savolt's remarkable achievement, achieving a commendable total score of 5,092. This new personal best from Savolt ranks second in the NCAA DII era at FHSU. Maggie Remsberg also had a personal best in scoring for the heptathlon with 4,769. Both scores were good for provisional marks.

Transitioning to the Midwest Classic, Tori Poe emerged as a standout performer in the women's sprints, securing noteworthy times in both the 100m and 200m events. Poe was able to get a personal best in the 200m, finishing in third with a time of 24.83. In the realm of distance events, Cori Deboest and Noah Morenz delivered strong performances, with Morenz finishing third in the 3,000m steeplechase after securing a second-place finish just the weekend prior in Pittsburg, Kan.

The women's triple jump witnessed freshman Jayme Hagerman's impressive leap of 37-6.5, securing her the top spot. This marked Hagerman's third triple jump victory as a freshman. In the men's long jump, Keamonie Archie leaped into a second-place finish with a mark of 24-0.25, earning a provisional mark. Kyreese Groen closely followed in fourth place, covering a distance of 22-6.25.

In the throwing events, Jessica Saunders dominated the women's discus with a winning throw of 144-5.0, marking a personal best for Saunders. Liberty Booker's stellar performance in the women's shot put and hammer throw earned her fourth and second place finishes, respectively. Rhyann Brown's impressive throw of 145-9.0 in the women's javelin secured her third place while achieving a provisional mark.

The Tigers in Azusa, Calif. will compete in the last day of the Bryan Clay Invitational on Saturday (April 13).
