EMPORIA, Kan. - The Fort Hays State women's track and field team placed first and the men's squad finished second at the Midwest Classic on Friday (April 3), with the Tigers claiming six event victories and posting a pair of national qualifying performances.

Battling wind and rain, both the men's and women's squads collected three first-place finishes each. The women collected 141 points, 38 more than host Emporia State, while the men tied for second with 88 team points.

A week after breaking her own school record in the discus,
Emma Slade won the event on Friday with a top mark of 155-2. The sophomore also finished third in the hammer with a top heave of 171-9.

Jackson Rumford opened the action in the javelin on Thursday with a national-qualifying toss of 205-11, finishing in sixth place.

The Tigers picked up a sweep in both the 3,000m steeplechase and the 1,500m run.
Esther Clark-Pavlovich won the women's 3,000m steeplechase in 11:37.70, fourth-best at FHSU during the DII era.
Noah Morenz placed first in the men's race after posting a time of 9:26.09.

Emily Diercks McCullough won the women's 1,500m run in 4:41.92, with
Farrin Mangelson taking the men's competition in 3:58.03.
Taylor Hoskinson was close behind in the women's race, placing second with a time of 4:42.39.

Hailey Brown finished sixth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.92, eighth-fastest at FHSU during the DII era. The freshman also placed third in the 200m dash after crossing the line in 25.33.

Jayden Michaelis placed first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.28, ranking second on the FHSU DII era performance chart.

Avrey Albright finished third in both the 100m dash (10.47) and the 200m dash (21.50).

Drew Tolar placed second in the long jump with a top leap of 23-6, while
Brady Deges finished third in the pole vault after clearing 15-1.
Kaeden Kasselman also finished third in the discus, recording a top heave of 156-5.

The Tigers will be back in action next week (April 9-11) at a pair of meets, with some traveling to Canyon, Texas for the Jo Meaker Classic & Multi while others compete in El Dorado, Kan. At the Butler County Distance Festival.
