KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State kicker
David Arriaga was named the MIAA Special Teams Athlete of the Week on Monday (Sept. 15) for his performance in a 26-7 win for Fort Hays State over Nebraska-Kearney last week. His 14 points off kicks produced more than half of the team's points, helping the Tigers move to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the MIAA.
Arriaga was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goal attempts in a win over Nebraska-Kearney. He converted kicks from 42, 38, 34, and 27 yards. He accounted for more than half of the points scored by FHSU in the game with 14, going a perfect 2-for-2 on PAT attempts in addition to his four field goals. Arriaga averaged 62 yards per kickoff and had four touchbacks in the game.
Arriaga is the third Tiger football player to receive a weekly honor from the MIAA this season after
John Johnson (Defensive Athlete of the Week) and
Taderian Partee (Special Teams Athlete of the Week) earned honors last week following FHSU's 36-35 win over CSU Pueblo. This was the second-straight week a Tiger received the Special Teams Athlete of the Week distinction.
Arriaga joined Jack Pospisil of Central Missouri (Offensive Athlete of the Week) and Reginald King Jr. of Pittsburg State (Defensive Athlete of the Week) as the weekly honorees for September 15, 2025.
