MARYVILLE, Mo. - A trio of Tigers opened the weekend for the men's and women's Fort Hays State track and field teams at the Bearcat Invite on Friday (Feb. 6), with two posting national qualifying marks.
Â
Annabeth Baalmann won the pole vault competition with a national-qualifying clearance of 13-6.25 on her first try. The senior entered the event at 13-2.25 after all other athletes were already out, clearing the bar on her first attempt. Her top mark would rank sixth across all Division II this season were it not for her school-record performance of 14-1.25 set last semester.
Â
Drew Tolar currently sits in first place in the heptathlon with a total of 3,036 points through four events. He is 234 points ahead of his day-one pace set earlier this season when he surpassed the national qualifying threshold with 4,866 total points.
Â
The sophomore matched the national qualifying mark with a personal-best long jump of 23-6.75, collecting 857 points and etching his name in seventh place on the FHSU DII era performance chart. He also posted a PR in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6-3.5 to add 679 points to his total.
Â
Making his Tiger debut,
Farrin Mangelson placed third out of 57 runners in the 5,000m with a time of 14:47.44. That time ranks seventh on the FHSU Division II performance list.
Â
Tolar will wrap up competition in the heptathlon Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. before five other Tigers also compete later in the day in the 60m hurdles and the men's pole vault.
