2017-18 Promotional Schedule

Fort Hays State looks to snap a two-game skid when it hosts long-time rival Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday (Jan. 13) at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. Game time is set for 4 pm, following the women's contest at 2 pm. FHSU enters at 10-5 overall, 3-3 in the MIAA, while UNK is 6-9 overall, 2-4 in the MIAA.

The Tigers look to continue their success at home, where they are 8-0 so far this year. FHSU is coming off a pair of conference road losses last week at Central Missouri and Southwest Baptist. The game against SBU went to overtime with the Tigers falling by five, making the Tigers 0-3 in overtime games so far this year.

As of January 10, Fort Hays State was seventh in the MIAA with Lindenwood and Emporia State. With the conference season still young, the Tigers are only two games back of second place in the standings. Several games take place on Thursday evening, so the standings will adjust one more time before the Tigers and Lopers face off Saturday.

Fort Hays State's top four scorers during the two road games last week were a combined 26-of-26 at the free-throw line. That group included Hadley Gillum (7-of-7), Trey O'Neil (7-of-7), Grant Holmes (8-of-8), and Brady Werth (4-of-4). Though the Tigers struggled from the field in both games, shooting just 37.7 percent for the week, they excelled at the free-throw line at 89.7 percent (35-of-39). Gillum led the team in scoring over the two contests at 12 points per game, but fouled out of both, while O'Neil and Holmes added 9.5 points per game each. Fort Hays State ranks 11th in the nation in free-throw percentage, hitting at a 77.6 percent clip. Nebraska-Kearney is also solid at the stripe, converting 75.7 percent of its attempts, ranking 32nd nationally.

Trey Lansman leads the Lopers at 22.3 points per game. That is good for second in the MIAA in scoring only behind the 2017 National Player of the Year, Justin Pitts of Northwest Missouri State, who averages 22.7 per game. The Lopers have three other players that average over 11 points per game.

Gillum continues to lead the Tigers in scoring at 17.3 points per game to rank fifth in the conference. Werth is also averaging double figures in scoring at 10.9 points per game.
