PRATT, Kan. – Fort Hays State Tennis had a pair of doubles teams win their respective pools at the Pratt Doubles Tournament on Friday (Oct. 4), hosted by Pratt Community College. The Tigers wrapped up their fall season in the process and will carry over a 2-2 record to the spring season.
Doubles teams of
Irina Alfonso and
Suzana Faucz (Pool 1A), along with
Ines Latorre and
Bethan Gill (Pool 3A) were victorious in their respective pools. Both teams went 3-0 on the day. The team of Alfonso/Faucz defeated teams from Emporia State, Newman, and Barton (Kan.) Community College to win their pool, while the team of Latorre/Gill defeated pairs from Missouri Valley, Pratt (Kan.) Community College, and Kansas Wesleyan to win their pool.
Fort Hays State had five teams in action altogether, utilizing all players on its roster. In Pool 2B,
Grace Unruh and
Yone Pereiro went 1-2. In Pool 1B,
Shreethika Vangala and
Janae Montoya went 0-3. In Pool 3B,
Ines Steeman and
Hope Lubbers went 0-3. Lubbers was recognized at the event for participating in her last collegiate event.
The Tigers are set to resume action on February 22 in a match at Hastings College in Nebraska.
