Box Score EDMOND, Okla. – Fort Hays State Tennis fell in conference play to Central Oklahoma on Friday (Apr. 25) by a score of 6-1. The Tigers picked up their only point in singles play on a win by
Ines Latorre. FHSU moved to 13-8 overall and 2-6 in the MIAA. UCO moved to 10-5 overall and 6-2 in the MIAA.
The Bronchos won all three doubles matches contested, but two of the three were tight. The No. 2 doubles team of
Irina Alfonso and
Suzana Faucz fell 6-4, while the No. 3 team of
Ines Latorre and
Yone Pereiro fell 7-5. The No. 1 team of
Shreethika Vangala and
Janae Montoya fell 6-2.
Latorre won her singles match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 6 position for the only FHSU team point. Faucz (No. 2) and Pereiro (No. 3) took their opponents to three sets, moving up a notch in the lineup due to Alfonso being out for singles action. After a 6-4 setback in the first set, Faucz posted a 6-3 win in the second set, but she fell 6-0 in the final set. Pereiro took the first set of her match 6-3, but then fell short 7-5 and 6-3 in the next two.
Bethan Gill (No. 4) and
Grace Unruh (No. 5) both lost by identical scores of 6-0, 7-5. Vangala fell at No. 1 6-0, 6-2.
The Tigers wrap up their regular season on Saturday (Apr. 26) at Newman University in Wichita, Kan.
