The Fort Hays State men's and women's indoor track and field teams will compete in the regular season for the final time on Friday (Feb. 20) when the Tigers send athletes to a pair of meets. Several student-athletes will travel to Manhattan, Kan. for the Steve Miller Invitational, with others headed north to Kearney, Neb. for the Loper Tune-Up.
Â
The Tigers will send 27 individuals to compete in 36 entries at the Steve Miller Invite, while 13 student-athletes head to Kearney to compete in 21 entries.
Â
The Tiger women head into the weekend ranked 22nd in Division II thanks to four national qualifying performances, including a pair that rank inside the top four nationally.
Annabeth Baalmann leads the country in the pole vault with her school-record clearance of 14-1.25, while
Katie Linenberger ranks fourth in the high jump with a top mark of 5-10.
Emily Diercks McCullough has broken a pair of school records this season, doing so in the 5,000m run two weeks ago with a time of 16:49.86 before running the 3,000m in 16:49.86 this weekend. She ranks 26th in the country in the 5K and 36th in the 3K. She is one of 18 Division II student-athletes to post a national qualifying time in both distances and one of just three in the MIAA.
Â
The men's squad has put together six national qualifying marks this season, including a pair from
Drew Tolar in the heptathlon (5,117 - 11th) and the long jump (23-6.75, 40th) and four in the pole vault in
Josiah Ball (16-10, 12th),
Hunter Angove (16-6, 24th),
Mason Younger (16-0.75, 35th) and
Brady Deges (15-10, 48th).
Â
This is FHSU's third trip to Kearney this season, with Tiger athletes putting together six national qualifying performances inside the Cushing Coliseum on the year.
Â
The Tigers have competed at the Steve Miller Invite each of the last two seasons, with FHSU competitors turning in seven national qualifying performances on the purple track in 2024 before adding three more in 2025.
Â
Looking ahead, FHSU will open postseason competition next weekend (Feb. 27-March 1) with the MIAA Championships in Pittsburg, Kan.
