Indoor Track and Field Prepped for MIAA Championships

at 2026 MIAA Indoor Championships
Friday-Sunday, February 27-March 1, 2026

The Fort Hays State men's and women's indoor track and field teams open postseason competition this weekend (Feb. 27-March 1) with the 2026 MIAA Indoor Championships. After hosting the cross country league meet in October and before hosting the outdoor track and field championships in May, Pittsburg State will host also host the indoor meet this year inside the Robert W. Plaster Center.
 
Multi-events will open the action Friday beginning at 2 p.m. before the men finish the final three events in the heptathlon Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m. Seven field event finals, four distance finals and the rest of the preliminary rounds on the track will begin Saturday at 2 p.m. before Championship Sunday kicks off at noon.

Single day tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students/children (3-17). Three-day all session passes are available for $15.

Fans can watch the 2026 MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships live on the MIAA Digital Network. For the first time in championships history, this year's broadcast will include specific event cameras to help provide enhanced coverage of the meet. Fans can purchase an individual camera for $10 or select a $15 weekend plan and gain access to all 12 web streams that will take place throughout the three-day meet.
 
The Tiger women head into the meet ranked 22nd in Division II, one of five nationally ranked teams in the conference.
 
The men's team is expected to send 23 athletes to Pittsburg to compete in 30 entries, including Avrey Albright, Hunter Angove, Josiah Ball, Taran Castro, Dean Clark, Brady Deges, Brock Deterding, Brett Eckhardt, Kamryn Golub, Aiden Heidari, Cole Krug, Farrin Mangelson, Chayse McCullough, Jayden Michaelis, Hayden Nemechek, Bradley Nkosi, Mayan Paz, Austin Ritsema, Drew Tolar, Will Wegerer, Luke Wessel, Emery Wolfe and Mason Younger
 
The women's squad has 23 individuals scheduled to compete in 32 entries. Competitors for the women will include Annabeth Baalmann, Liberty Booker, Hailey Brown, Esther Clark-Pavlovich, Emily Diercks, Lillian Finke, Amelia Foster, Brynlee Frank, Janae Fugitt, Alonnah Gage, Jayme Hagerman, Ashlyn Harbaugh, Taylor Hoskinson, Abbye Hudson, Bella Hudson, Donna Jackson, Katie Linenberger, Reba Mader, Natalee North, Makenzie Premer, Emma Slade, Breanna Wells and Emma Weiner.
 
Both teams placed seventh at the 2025 indoor league meet, with each team claiming three All-MIAA honors last season.

The Tigers have cleared the national qualifying threshold 11 times this season, including five by the women's team and six by the men's squad.

For the women, Baalmann ranks second in Division II in the pole vault with her school-record clearance of 14-1.25 accomplished in December. The three-time All-American is one of two DII athletes to successfully clear the 14-foot threshold this season.

Linenberger ranks fourth in the high jump with her personal-best clearance of 5-10, accomplished last month (Jan. 30) at the Charlie Foster Classic in Kearney, Neb. She is one of nine athletes in Division II to clear 5-9 or better this season and is one of three freshmen to post a mark of 5-8 or better on the year. The Hays native ranks second on FHSU DII era performance list.

McCullough has broken a pair of school records this season, doing so in the 5,000m run two weeks ago with a time of 16:49.86 before running the 3,000m in 16:49.86 this weekend. She ranks 27th in the country in the 5K and 40th in the 3K. She is one of 18 Division II student-athletes to post a national qualifying time in both distances and one of just three in the MIAA.

Mader surpassed the national qualifying time in the 400m dash last Friday (Feb. 20) in Manhattan, Kan., crossing the line in 55.95 to rank 45th in Division II this season.

For the men, Tolar sits in 11th on the heptathlon national chart with a top point total of 5,117. The sophomore also ranks 44th in the long jump after a personal-best 23-6.75.

Four pole vaulters have etched their name on the national performance chart, let by Ball who ranks 12th in DII with a top clearance of 16-10.75. Angove currently sits 25th in the country with a top performance of 16-6. Younger cleared 16-0.75 to rank 40th in the country, while Deges is 49th with a top clearance of 15-11.

The women's team has seen four school records go down this season, including Baalmann in the pole vault (14-1.25), McCullough in the 3,000m (9:48.10) and the 5,000m (16:49.86) and Hoskinson in the 1,000m (2:56.87).
