BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Fort Hays State's
Cooper Scheck wrapped up his collegiate career with a sub-par total at the 2026 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship this week, finishing at 1-under 215 after posting a 1-over 73 in the final round on Wednesday (May 20). The senior finished in a tie for 41st place out of 108 players at Boulder Creek Golf Club, a par-72, 7,595-yard layout.
Â
The two-time All-Region selection hit 13 of the 18 greens and eight of the 14 fairways in the third round, totaling four birdies, three bogeys and one double bogey.
Â
After getting up and down for par from just off the green on hole one, Scheck reached the green on the par-5 second hole in two for the third day in a row, recording a third two-putt birdie. That sparked a run of 11-straight greens in regulation for Scheck, including another two-putt birdie on the par-5 fifth hole and a 15-foot birdie putt on the par-3 eighth hole. A double bogey on No. 7 and a bogey on hole 9 moved his score to even-par 36 on the front side of the course.
Â
The Dodge City, Kan. native opened the back nine with four consecutive pars before a bogey on hole 14 moved him to 1-over for the day and 1-under for the tournament, but a 25-foot birdie putt on the long par-5 16th hole got him back to even for the day. He finished the event with a bogey on the 54th hole after his par putt just slipped by the cup.
Â
Scheck finished the week with 14 birdies across the 54 holes. He played the par-5's in 6-under and the par-3's in 1-under. He finished third out of the 12 MIAA athletes who competed in the event.
Â
The three-time All-MIAA selection concluded one of the greatest careers in program history, finishing the season with a stroke average of 71.78, lowest on record, and a career average of 72.42 in 101 rounds as a Tiger, also the lowest on record. He posted 38 rounds at-or-under par in his career, including 20 rounds in the 60s.
Â
Octavio Laurent of South Carolina-Beaufort secured the individual championship with a cumulative score of 17-under 199, posting rounds of 70, 66 and 63.
