Basketball (1987-91)
Annette Wiles, native of Hunter, Kansas, became the all-time leading scorer in Fort Hays State Women’s Basketball history in 1991, producing 2,407 points over four seasons. She remains the only player in the program’s history to score over 2,000 points. Her great playing career culminated in helping the Tigers to the 1991 NAIA National Championship with a 34-2 record, the only national title in FHSU Women’s Basketball history. The Tigers were also Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference champions that season.
 
Wiles was a two-time All-America selection and named the Most Valuable Player of the 1991 NAIA National Tournament. In her senior year, she scored a single-season school record 880 points, averaging 24.4 per game. She set the three-highest single-season scoring averages in FHSU Women’s Basketball history, scoring 21.6 per game in 1988-89, 20.6 per game in 1989-90, and the 24.4 per game in 1990-91. Her 364 rebounds in 1990-91 also set a single-season school record, which helped her average a double-double her senior year with 10.1 rebounds per game.
 
Wiles averaged 20.4 points per game during her career. She set the program’s career rebounds record with 961, while also setting records for for field goals made (993), field goals attempted (1,700), field goal percentage (.584), free-throws made (421), free-throws attempted (554), and blocked shots (142). She still holds several of those records to this date.
 
Wiles is also a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Hall of Fame. She enjoyed a long career as a women’s college basketball head coach amassing over 400 wins with a career mark of 409-227 (.643), coaching seven years at Bethany (Kan.) College, eight years at Fort Hays State, and seven years at Minnesota Duluth. She was twice named Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year and twice named the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. She led three teams to NCAA Tournament appearances, which included 2005 at Fort Hays State and 2010 and 2012 at Minnesota Duluth, and led Bethany College to four NAIA national tournament appearances.
