Men's Gymnastics (1980-84)
A native of Wichita, Kan., Jason Smith was a member of the men’s gymnastics squad from 1980 to 1984.  Smith was a part of four teams that finished in the top three at the NAIA National Championships.  In 1981, 1983 and 1984, he helped the team to third-place finishes.  In 1982, FHSU was the national runner-up.  Smith was a two-time NAIA All-American in the all-around competition, finishing as the national runner-up in both 1982 and 1984.  In 1983, Smith finished sixth in the nation in the all-around competition.  Smith also had several impressive finishes in single events at the national championships.  In 1983 as a junior, Smith finished fourth in the vault, fifth in the parallel bars and eighth in the high bar.  In 1984 as a senior, Smith finished third in high bar, third in floor exercise, fourth in rings, and fifth in parallel bars.  Smith graduated from Fort Hays State in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
