Volleyball, Women's Basketball, Softball (1981-86)
A native of Hays, Kan., Terrie Sargent, now Terrie Harms, was a member of the FHSU volleyball, women’s basketball and softball teams from 1981 to 1986. Sargent was a two-time NAIA All-American Honorable Mention selection in volleyball for the Tigers, coming in 1984 and 1985. She was the first volleyball player ever at FHSU to receive All-American honors. For volleyball, Sargent also earned All-District 10 First Team honors all four years she competed (1981, 1982, 1984, 1985). She was also named to the All-CSIC Team three times in her career. Sargent holds the single-season record for block assists at FHSU with 150, coming in 1985. She can also be found on numerous top five lists for Tiger Volleyball. Sargent was a member of FHSU’s only three volleyball squads to record 50 wins in a season, including teams that competed at nationals in 1982 and 1984. The team was a combined 182-65-2 in her four years as a Tiger, a winning percentage of .735. As a basketball player, Sargent was a three-time All-CSIC selection, coming during her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. She ranks ninth on the career scoring list with 1,156 points. As a softball player, Sargent was a two-time all-district selection. She earned all-conference honors in 1985. In 1986, Sargent was the recipient of the FHSU Outstanding Woman Athlete Award. She graduated from Fort Hays State with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education in 1986 and a master’s degree in Administration of Physical Education in 1988. She also obtained another bachelor’s degree in Sonography from Newman University in 2003.
